Wedding Outfits

Six months before start looking for your wedding dress. Remember that the style and colour may be dependent upon whether or not you choose to have a theme. You might also decide to tie your look to your wedding location too.  Do you want it handmade, a designer or ‘off the peg’ dress. Do not discount second hand wedding dresses as many a wonderful bargain can be found in the hundreds of second hand shops around.  Don’t forget the old time-less verse - “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue”

Are you getting married outdoors, perhaps in the afternoon and are having a garden ceremony?  If that is the case then choose a strapless dress made of floating light material.

If it is a traditional wedding you have opted for then a ball gown or an A-line dress with square neckline is time-less.  Look for your accessories whilst shopping around for your wedding dress, including lingerie, veil, gloves, shoes and jewelry.

Next is the colour, there are many shades of white so make sure you select the one that best suits your skin colour or go for ivory, cream, lemon or another pale shade.

Do not overdo the jewelry as it will spoil the overall look, especially if your dress has lots of intricate details already, opt for simple pieces, or even just your engagement ring.

Not only do you have to consider your own attire you need to start thinking about the wedding attire for the groom, best man, bridesmaids, fathers, mothers and ushers, and whether you want to purchase or rent.

The groom should always stand out at a wedding, a different tie or waistcoat, and he is the only one who can wear a grey morning suit apart from royalty.  If top hats are to be part of the attire remember that they should be carried at weddings and never worn. A handkerchief tucked into the breast pocket will add the classic touch but keep it simple if you are wearing a buttonhole.

Two to three months before your wedding arrange for a final fitting of your wedding dress.  Take your bridesmaid with you so she can learn how to bustle your train and help you dress or undress to go to the bathroom.  Test that you can comfortably sit in it, walk around and lift your arms.  Complete the outfit with some nice underwear that you are happy for everyone to see and wear some heels.

Think about purchasing your "going away outfits" too.

Two to three weeks before the wedding confirm any last minute details.

Pick up your dress, try on the whole wedding outfit, including your wedding shoes, and test them out on carpeted surfaces around the house. It is a good idea to practice walking in high heels.
