Decide on whether your reception is to be a wedding breakfast which is a sit down lunch following a morning wedding or a traditional afternoon lunch which follows an afternoon wedding. Sometimes a couple cannot afford to feed everyone they would like to at a sit down lunch and so an evening reception is also organised with a buffet.
Venue
When looking at the venue take into consideration when the wedding date is with regards to whether it is a popular date in which case you will need to organise well in advance. When looking at the time of the receptions make sure the venue does not have restrictions on the alcohol license. There may also be limits on how late the music is allowed to play.

Evening entertainment generally consists of a disco or band allowing people to get up and dance at their leisure or sit and chat after a long day. This is great if you have lots of guests arriving in the evening.
Local Amenities
If you are trying to keep to a budget then check out all of the local amenities like church halls and British Legions. These can be brightened up considerably with decorations especially if there is a themed wedding.
